Unusual Beginning to Winter Quarter

A MESSAGE FROM THE REGISTRAR
December 4, 2007
Dear Colleagues,
As Finals Week winds down for Autumn 2007, we wanted to remind you about the start of Winter 2008.

• Classes will begin on Thursday, January 3. Students and faculty/instructional staff should follow their Thursday schedule of classes on that day.
• On Friday, January 4, students and faculty/instructional staff should follow their MONDAY schedule of classes, including evening classes.

With an already shorter-than-usual quarter, it was agreed to exchange the Friday classes that day for the Monday classes that will be missed on the Martin Luther King holiday. Friday is, by far, the least utilized instructional day, and most classes offered on Friday have a Monday component anyway. The reverse is not true. This will provide an opportunity to have nine instructional Mondays and nine instructional Fridays during Wi'08.
