Making Fed Jobs Easier to Find

Making Fed Jobs Easier to Find
Monday, December 10, 2007 | 5:22 P

To reach more job seekers, the Office of Personnel Management announced last week that it has made job vacancies in the federal government more accessible to Internet search engines, like Google and Yahoo. Before job vacancies could only be searched by keyword from on the federal government's USAJOBS Web site. Now, a job seeker "who types in a job title on Google or other engines, such as "IT Specialist" or "Electrical Engineer," will now also see links to federal vacancy announcements in those fields," according to the OPM announcement.
That should make the 60,000 openings on USAJOBS a bit more accessible, although the site already gets 10 million visitors a month.

Unusual Beginning to Winter Quarter

A MESSAGE FROM THE REGISTRAR
December 4, 2007
Dear Colleagues,
As Finals Week winds down for Autumn 2007, we wanted to remind you about the start of Winter 2008.

• Classes will begin on Thursday, January 3. Students and faculty/instructional staff should follow their Thursday schedule of classes on that day.
• On Friday, January 4, students and faculty/instructional staff should follow their MONDAY schedule of classes, including evening classes.

With an already shorter-than-usual quarter, it was agreed to exchange the Friday classes that day for the Monday classes that will be missed on the Martin Luther King holiday. Friday is, by far, the least utilized instructional day, and most classes offered on Friday have a Monday component anyway. The reverse is not true. This will provide an opportunity to have nine instructional Mondays and nine instructional Fridays during Wi'08.

BART Seeking Undergraduate and Graduate Student Representatives

The Bias Assessment and Response Team (B.A.R.T) is seeking undergraduate and graduate student representatives to serve on the team. Students need to have an interest in looking at and crafting responses to various issues of bias, including but not limited to bias based on race, sexual orientation, religion, gender, and disability. Students will be responsible for implementing ways to increase awareness about the specific issues of bias prevalent on OSU's campus, as well as serve as a sounding board for B.A.R.T decisions.

The team prefers students who are not overextended and/or have excellent time management skills due to the nature of the work and the potential for the time commitment to increase.

If you are interested, please submit your name, phone number, address, e-mail, and brief blurb about why you think you would be a strong student to have on the team (no more than three sentences) to Rebecca Lane (lane.237@osu.edu) no later than Thursday, December 6, 2007.
